Oil burner malfunctions

My oil burner does not start, engine hums and burner goes to fault after a short time

Possible reasons:
  • Oil pump is fixed and blocks the motor
  • Motor shaft is stuck, motor defective
  • Starting capacitor of the motor defective
  • Pump coupling defective

My burner starts, ignites normally, burns and goes to fault after approx. 10 sec.

Possible reasons:
  • Photocell defective or soiled
  • Burner control unit defective

My burner pre vents, valve opens audibly, but no flame is coming

Possible reasonsn:
  • Ignition electrode dirty, distance incorrect or defective
  • Ignition cable fails, ignition transformer defective
  • Nozzle contaminated, defective
  • Automatic burner control defective (no voltage on ignition transformer)
  • Oil pump does not bring pressure, defective or no oil in tank
  • Incorrect air setting, too much air during ignition

My burner starts very hard and smokes after ignition

Possible reasons:
  • Ignition electrode dirty, distance incorrect or defective
  • Ignition cables strike through
  • Nozzle dirty or defective
  • Boiler heavily soiled, no flue, high combustion chamber resistance
  • Oil pump brings fluctuating pressure, defective or too little oil in the tankk
  • Incorrect air setting, too much air during ignition

Burner goes out a short time after ignition and restarts again

Possible reasons:
  • Flame break due to incorrect setting
  • Nozzle soiled
  • Fluctuating pump pressure
  • Photoresistor dirty
  • Solenoid coil or control unit defective

Gas burner malfunctions

My gas burner pre vents, solenoid valve opens, burner goes out and restarts again

Possible reasons:
  • Too little gas pressure present
  • Gas filter dirty
  • Incorrect setting on the gas pressure switch

My gas burner vented before, ignites perfectly with flame formation, shortly thereafter malfunction

Possible reasons:
  • No or too low monitoring current
  • Ionization electrode or UV probe defective
  • Burner control unit defective
  • Incorrect burner setting
